We hand-select material in person rather than buying from photographs, because two slabs from the same name can differ enormously in vein movement, background tone, and character. For a specific project, we walk clients through the slab floor so the choice is made with the room's lighting, scale, and adjacent finishes in mind. The Mathematics of Bookmatching
Bookmatching is where marble stops being a material and becomes a composition. Two consecutive slabs cut from the same block are opened like the pages of a book, so the veining mirrors itself across the seam. Done correctly, the join disappears and the stone reads as a single, larger pattern — a butterfly of veining across an island or a full-height wall. It is unforgiving work: a few millimeters of misalignment breaks the illusion entirely. We photograph and number every slab, plan the fold digitally before any cutting, and coordinate substrate thickness so surface planes align perfectly with the cabinetry beside them.
